The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) was launched by the Government of India in 2015 as a flagship initiative under the Ministry of Rural Development. It aims to provide "Housing for All" by the year 2022, specifically focusing on the rural poor. Eligibility Criteria of the scheme

To be eligible for PMAY-G, the applicant must:Be a rural household without a pucca house.Be listed in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data.Belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) or similar categories like SC, ST, minorities, manual scavenger families, or bonded labourers.Not own any permanent structure anywhere in India.Not be an income taxpayer or government employee.Priority is given to:Landless laborers.Households headed by widows or unmarried women.Physically disabled members.Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes.

Benefits Offered in the scheme

Financial assistance of:₹1.20 lakh in plain areas.₹1.30 lakh in hilly, difficult, or Integrated Action Plan (IAP) areas.₹12,000 additional for construction of a toilet under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).Free LPG connection under Ujjwala Yojana.Unskilled wage labour support of 90–95 days under MGNREGA for house construction.Amount is transferred directly to beneficiary’s bank account in 3–4 installments.
