Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme

The Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) is a centrally sponsored scheme under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP). Launched in 2007, it provides financial security to senior citizens from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households by offering a monthly pension to support their basic needs and dignity.The scheme targets vulnerable elderly individuals who have no regular source of income and often rely on others for sustenance.

To provide basic financial support to poor senior citizens in rural and urban areas. To ensure social protection for the elderly who do not have family support or regular income. To help senior citizens live with dignity, independence, and better quality of life in their later years.

Must be an Indian citizen.Age must be 60 years or above.Belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category as per SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) or state government list.Not receiving regular pension from any other central/state scheme (excluding social pensions).Must be resident in the state/UT where applying.✅ Note: Priority is often given to destitute, widow, disabled, and single elderly persons.

Monthly pension of ₹200 for citizens aged 60–79 years.Monthly pension of ₹500 for citizens aged 80 years and above.The central government pays the base amount, while many state governments add a top-up amount (varies by state).Pension is credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank or post office account via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
